INTERVIEW W/ EARL D
Q: Let’s talk about EarlD. Who is he? Where is he from?
A: Earl D, also known as WEARLD. Dope black kid from Southside, Jamaica Queens. I’m a first generation black West Indian in my family. I am free, I am enlightened, & I am the future. I stand ready to take center stage, armed with the authenticity, connection, and a presence that sets me apart as an artist.
I firmly believe that talent, hard work, and drive are the true markers of success. Moreover, I am committed to one of my missions of uplifting my loved ones and community.
Q: When did you start singing and songwriting? Which started first? What inspires you to create?
A: Nearly eight years ago, while attending community college, I discovered a passion for music that became an integral part of my identity. I honed in on my craft and developed a unique sound that I was eager to share with the world.
My musical journey spans various from experiences, from participating in school plays and choirs, to competing in numerous competitions. Music has always been more than a hobby for me; it’s been a calling that has shaped my life in profound ways.
Q: Smoke n’ Mirrors, Why did you choose that name? What’s the message behind the title?
A: Smoke N’ Mirrors? A lot of times we surface feelings, thoughts and ideas that aren’t a reflection of our true self. A lot of times it’s either good or bad. In writing & recording these songs for this project, I stumbled across this feeling or idea. I was conflicted with what I was producing and showcasing versus my true self or how people view me. So, once the songs were done the concept was built and the Smoke and Mirrors analogy stuck with me. To be somewhat original, and also stick to my New York roots, I “jazzed” the name up a lil bit, feel me?
Q: What makes RNBPLYLST different? Why is RNB special to you?
A: RNBPLYLST was recommended to me by my engineer KC. Shout Out to my guy. Extremely talented & well respected. RNBPLYLST was unexpected. Usually singing platforms aren’t targeted to a specific group and if they are, don’t acknowledge REAL untapped artistry. Coming to your event & seeing the community you’ve built and the way you conduct your business is commendable. You guys have shown up, brought me in and highlighted me from jump. I’ll take this time to give you your flowers and say thank you, you guys are my definitely apart of my SHARKE WORLD forever!
Q: What can we expect from you? What are your plans for 2025?
A: 2025 God Willing the plan is to establish. Establish a musical resume, a bigger fan base, and a stronger connection to my craft. I have a mixtape on the way. The second installment to my E-mix series: E-mix Vol 1 is out everywhere, along with so much more work. Please be Advised everything is released with meaning & intention! Stay tuned because this is only the beginning .
